’Israel’ Bans Islamic Movement
Local Editor
"Israel" decided on Tuesday to ban the Islamic Movement's Northern branch, under the pretext that it provokes violence at the occupied al-Aqsa Mosque as part of the Intifada that rose in the occupied territories almost two months ago.
The "Israeli" occupation government stated that any person who belongs to the movement, provides services to it or acts within its framework is henceforth committing "a criminal offence punishable by a prison sentence."
The Islamic Movement, based largely in northern Occupied Palestine, boycotts "Israeli" elections on the grounds that they give legitimacy to the institutions of the Zionist entity.
In a related context, the Zionist occupation police raided offices of the movement and 17 other movements in Arab communities across Occupied Palestine on Tuesday.
This comes as the apartheid entity claimed that the movement is part of the other movements behind the Intifada that emerged across the Occupied Palestinian territories against the enemy's brutal behavior.
For the past 20 years, the movement has held an annual conference under the slogan "al-Aqsa Mosque is in danger", warning that the Zionists plan to destroy it to build a Jewish temple in its place.
Last month, one of the movement leaders, Raed Salah, was sentenced to 11 months in jail on charges of "inciting violence at the mosque compound in a 2007 speech."
