Trump’s Trip to ’Israel’ Delayed
Local Editor
The presidential candidate for the US for the 2016 elections Donald Trump, under fire over his proposal to ban Muslims from entering the United States, announced that he is postponing his trip to "Israel" and his once-planned meeting with Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The announcement came on Trump's Twitter account as he tweeted: "I have decided to postpone my trip to "Israel" and to schedule my meeting with @Netanyahu at a later date after I become President of the US."
Relatively, Trump indicated in an interview that he spoke with Netanyahu, and that "he said we have a meeting and he looks forward to the meeting and all of that. But I didn't want to put him under pressure."
Trump further added that he is in "the midst of a very powerful campaign that's going very well, and it was not that easy to do ... I could have done it, it was semi-scheduled."
Meanwhile, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said the Obama administration officials are "relieved" that Trump canceled his "Israel" trip, given the volatility in the region.
In the same context, a separate NBC News and Wall Street Journal survey indicated that a majority of Americans oppose Trump's Muslim plan, with 57% of adults against the idea and a quarter for it.
