Iran to Continue Upgrading Missile Might despite US New Sanctions

A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, and read out by its spokesman Hussein Jaberi Ansari said that Tehran will firmly respond to such "propaganda measures."

"We will respond to such propaganda stunts and measures meant to harm by more robustly pursuing our lawful missile program and promoting our defense capabilities and national security," the statement added.

Relatively, the US Department of the Treasury said in a statement on Sunday that it imposed new sanctions on several individuals and firms over Iran's ballistic missile program, claiming that the program "poses a significant threat to regional and global security."

The statement further explained that Washington imposed sanctions on 11 companies and individuals for helping to supply Iran's ballistic missile program.

The move came less than a day after some of the sanctions imposed on Iran over its nuclear program were removed by the US and EU.

Back on December 31, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that Tehran should expand its missile program in response to US threats to introduce new sanctions.

Besides, Rouhani wrote in a letter addressed to Defense Minister Hussein Dehghan that Iran needs to step up its missile capabilities in response to aggressive actions by the US.

Rouhani further stressed that Iran has the right to continue developing its missiles since they are not capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
