Major General Jamil As-Sayyed, former director of the General Security and one of the four generals being held for suspicion of involvement in the Rafik Hariri assassination, sent a letter through Investigating Judge Sakr Sakr to Public Prosecutor Said Mirza, holding them both responsible for what he calls the ongoing "judicial mockery" of the case of Mohammed Zouhair Al-Saddiq, the main witness in the case, who went missing from his home near Paris recently.
"They also bear responsibility for any assassination attempt against Saddiq," Sayyed said in a statement through his lawyer.
"Sakr and Mirza granted Saddiq the freedom to move between different countries, despite the fact that former head of the International Independent Investigation Committee Judge Detlev Mehlis considered him the main suspect in the Hariri assassination," Sayyed added.
However, Mehlis' successor, Judge Serge Brammertz, considered Saddiq a fake witness and declared his testimony on the involvement of the four generals in the assassination null and void.
Sayyed said that Saddiq was used by the investigators as a means to arrest the four generals.
Sayyed, along with former head of the Lebanese Army Intelligence Brigadier General Raymond Azar, former head of the Presidential Guard Brigadier General Mustafa Hamdan, and former head of the ISF Brigadier General Ali Hajj, has been in detention for over two years.
