Aoun calls for truth behind mass graves, holds Saniora responsible for national catastrophe
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 14-04-2008
"The Lebanese war began under the slogan of injustice, deprivation and lack of participation," noted head of the Change and Reform bloc General Michel Aoun.
Aoun reiterated his belief that the government and the American administration which he said supported Prime Minister Fouad Saniora were responsible for the political vacuum in Lebanon today. "I remind the prime minister and the pro-government alliance that the people today feel the lack of participation, injustice and deprivation," he added.
After the weekly Change and Reform bloc meeting on Monday, Aoun announced he had assigned bloc MPs from Jubeil to pursue the issue of mass graves, stating it was essential that the fate of missing persons throughout Lebanon be revealed.
"We must open all mass graves for everyone to see their reality," Aoun said.
Aoun also said the bloc had received complaints from the residents of Ain Zhalta saying an Arab investor had purchased a wide area in the Ain Zhalta natural reserve, "which is supposed to be the property of the municipality. We cannot tolerate that," General Aoun added.
He remarked that the current government had brought the Lebanese to "this dire economic situation," again calling for the formation of a transitional government.
"As an opposition, we have responsibilities. But the largest responsibility belongs to the pro-government forces, for American President (George W.) Bush is not responsible for (Prime Minister Fouad) Saniora's errors," he said.
