Biden to Visit ’Israel’: US Military Aid on Top of Talks
Local Editor
US Vice President Joe Biden will land in the "Israeli"-occupied territories on Tuesday afternoon, six years after his last visit, to convince Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to sign a new Memorandum of Understanding between Tel Aviv and the United States.
However, it is unlikely a final agreement will be reached on the Memorandum of Understanding, which is supposed to replace the previous one signed in 2007, but Biden will work to advance the issue and convince Netanyahu to sign the Memorandum before President Barack Obama leaves office.
Biden's first stop in the occupied territories will be at the Peres Center for Peace, where he will meet with former "Israeli" president Shimon Peres and learn of some of the projects the center is leading. Biden will then have dinner with Netanyahu, and on Wednesday he will meet with both Netanyahu and the entity's current president, Reuven Rivlin.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu decided to cancel a planned trip to Washington on March 18 to meet Obama and speak at the American-"Israeli" Public Affairs Committee's [AIPAC] Policy Conference. He will instead address the conference via satellite link.
Sources close to Netanyahu attributed the reasons for the cancelation of the visit to the fact that he did not want to get sucked into the primaries in the US.
