Minister Khalifeh: Berri Efforts Strengthen Arab Initiative
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 14-04-2008
Resigned Health Minister Mohammed Jawad Khalifeh said that Speaker Nabih Berri's Arab tour does not contradict the meeting he held with Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa over the Arab initiative.
"Berri suggested ways to strengthen the Arab initiative," Khalifeh said.
"Berri's visit to Cairo was successful, and the presidential elections were the main topic of discussion," he told the Voice of Lebanon radio station.
Khalifeh said that Berri's efforts require Arab support. "He has been to Damascus and clarified some matters, and he listened to what the Syrians had to say. He has gained widespread support on several matters and helped facilitate some of the demands the majority was calling for," Khalifeh said.
He added that bringing up the matter of the electoral law is normal, "since we are approaching the legislative elections."
"The question is whether there is an international approval to reach a solution. Concerns will remain until after President Bush visits the region," Khalifeh said.
