Fierce Clashes between al-Nusra, Daesh in Arsal's Outskirts

After the calm holidays in Lebanon, the Lebanese cabinet is back to its dialogue and activity to try to resolve the thorny files that have been pending without solutions.

DAILY SCOPE: Internet Scandal Politicized, al-Nusra and Daesh Fierce Clashed in Arsal

Lebanese newspapers on Tuesday discussed the different domestic topics, including the "illegal internet scandal' which seems to be a subject of politicization especially after new threads were revealed in the case. Newspapers also followed up on the security developments in Lebanon's Arsal at the borders with Syria, where fierce battles are taking place between the two extremist groups, al-Nusra and Daesh [the Arabic acronym for the Takfiri "ISIS" group], as sources expect these fights to flare up.

AL-BINAA: Daesh, al-Nusra Clashes in Lebanon's Arsal, Major Daesh Invasion of Camps

Military sources told al-Binaa newspaper on Tuesday that "the attacks carried out by al-Nusra against Daesh in Arsal came after the latter pulled out its forces from Syria. Al-Nusra exploited the sensitive situation of Daesh and attacked military posts that belonged to it previously and retrieved them."

According to the sources, the clashes between the two sides led to the killing of a number of Daesh armed terrorists including a Lebanese known as Abu Aisha al-Arsali.

Sources also told the newspaper that Daesh is gathering its forces in preparation to invade the refugee camps in the Arsal outskirts, and that its forces have been gathering in the areas close to the target.

AL-AKHBAR: Al-Nusra to Abandon Refugee Camps in Arsal

"Al-Nusra Front terrorist group has distributed leaflets in Syrian refugee camps, which lie in the northeastern border town of Arsal, warning that it will no longer be able to protect them next month," reported al-Akhar daily on Tuesday.

Sources told the newspaper that the al-Qaeda-linked group informed the residents of the camps that it will leave the area by mid-April.

This took place simultaneously as al-Nusra was involved in fierce clashes with militants from the Daesh extremist group on the outskirts of Arsal.

Both sides deployed light and heavy weapon systems, and a large number of militants were either killed or injured during the in-fights, sources told the Lebanese State-run news agency earlier on Monday.

According to the source, Daesh reportedly mounted concerted attacks on al-Nusra positions and logistical centers physically liquidating a number of militants and field commanders in the process, while al-Nusra waged a counter-attack in response.

Security sources told al-Akhbar that the Lebanese army has been on high alert in the area, bringing more enforcement since the roadside bomb hit an army patrol last week.

AS-SAFIR: Major Pressure to Politicize Internet Scandal

On a different note, well-informed sources told As-Safir newspaper that there is a tough pressure is being made by political sides in Lebanon to bury the truth about the illegal internet scandal, in addition to attempts made to distort facts related to the case.

According to the sources, the performance and action of the judicial authorities in this case is very slow despite the data they possess now is a lot.

On this note, Head of the Parliamentary Media Committee MP Hassan Fadalallah assured to the newspaper that there are strong attempts to change the path of the case and force it into political calculations in the country.

He also assured that in case of any error or shortcomings in investigations carried out by official sides, the committee will then announce all the given it has and let the public opinion known the whereabouts of the case.

Earlier last week, Fadlallah stressed that the issue will remain a subject of intensive follow-up by the committee which will hear the briefing of the ministries of finance, defense and interior on the security and financial aspects tomorrow Wednesday.
