Iranian Defense Minister Congratulates Syrian Counterpart for Palmyra Victory

Al-Freij expressed to Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehghan his thanks to the Iranian government and armed forces for their support to Syria in the fight against terrorism.

He said the support of Syria's friends, especially Iran, had played an essential role in defeating Daesh [the Arabic acronym for the Takfiri "ISIS"] terrorists in Palmyra, which the Syrian army restored security to two days ago.

Retaking Palmyra, he added, is a major step on the way of achieving final victory in the fight against Takfiri terrorism and its sponsors and backers.

The Iranian Defense Minister, for his part, affirmed that Iran will continue supporting Syria in the struggle against terrorism, saying the victory at Palmyra came as the result of the unity and steadfastness of the people, government, armed forces and popular defense groups in Syria.

Dehqan described the Sunday liberation of the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra from the terrorists as the Syrian army's special victory.
