Former Minister Wian Wahhab said that Lebanon had not seen a single "white day" since UN Special Envoy for the implementation of Security Council resolution 1559 Terje Roed-Larsen had entered Lebanese files. Wahhab said Larsen had an "exposed plan to sabotage the Lebanese situation and Lebanese-Syrian relations."
Wahhab issued a statement saying the United Nations had lost almost all credibility between Larsen, former head of the UN commission for the investigation of the Hariri assassination Detlev Mehlis, and Mohammed Zuhair As-Saddiq, the major witness to the assassination of former Premier Rafik Hariri. Wahhab described Saddiq as a "fraud," emphasizing his belief that the three UN-linked figures had stripped the UN of all credibility which would require many long years to restore.
Wahab called on the Lebanese to refuse to receive Larsen in Lebanon from now on, as the UN envoy had become "a source of dissension among the Lebanese" and posed a threat to civil peace.
"We also call on UN Secretary General to take a bold step and relive this officer of his post," Wahhab said, accusing Larsen of accepting bribes in Lebanon.
