MP Khalil: The Arab initiative needs rescue
Source: NowLebanon, 23-04-2008
MP Ali Hassan Khalil of the Development and Liberation bloc headed by Speaker Nabih Berri said that the Arab initiative requires a rescue operation.
"The political pressure will not drive us away from our principles," Hassan said.
He also noted that Berri is aware that the Arab initiative has reached a dead end and needs rescuing, hence his call for dialogue.
"In spite of all the campaigns against him, Berri is still calling for dialogue, starting with the electoral law," Khalil added.
He also noted that the majority is trying to avoid its own crisis by keeping the situation as it is. "Berri tried during yesterday's consultations at the parliament to bring together feuding parties in a roundtable dialogue aimed at finding a way out of the present crisis."
According to Khalil, this dialogue is not a substitute for a wider one that will touch on more urgent matters, and which will be undertaken under the direction of the president.
