Salloukh doubts Kuwait conference capacity to change anything
Source: Nowlebanon, 24-4-2008
Resigned Lebanese Foreign Affairs Minister Fawzi Salloukh said he fears the recent meeting held in Kuwait may have touched on issues that constitute "obstacles toward progress" in Lebanon.
On Tuesday, foreign ministers of Iraq's neighboring countries joined the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and the remaining G8 industrial nations to discuss the situation in Iraq. The meeting, hosted by Kuwait, also called for the immediate election of a president in Lebanon.
Salloukh issued a statement questioning the ability of UN Security Council Resolution 1559 to dismantle the complex crisis in Lebanon. The resigned minister said a suitable solution would address the existing imbalance in Lebanese institutions, primarily the presidential vacuum, the government formula and the electoral law.
Salloukh called for Lebanese unity around the Arab initiative.
