Fadlallah says US, "Israeli" bid to divide Muslims will fail
Source: Daily Star, 29-04-2008
BEIRUT: Senior Shiite Muslim cleric Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah said on Monday that all attempts to divide Sunni and Shiite Muslims will fail. Fadlallah denounced the American and 'Israeli' role in encouraging internal political deadlocks in the region and in Lebanon as creating divisions between different Muslim factions all around the world.
"Islamic issues can't be split and Sunni and Shiite Muslims share the same problems," Fadlallah said, adding that there will be no conflict between these two Muslim communities.
Fadlallah on Monday telephoned Grand Mufti Mohammad Rashid Qabbani and discussed recent developments on the Lebanese political and religious scenes.
Fadlallah warned the Muslim community of the rise of anti-Islam movements in the world, especially in Europe, and described them as "part of some larger project to subdue Muslims." He stressed the importance of fighting these movements by preserving the Islamic "civilization, essence and unity."
