BEIRUT-The former head of the French Intelligence service Yves Bonnet has said that Walid Jumblatt, the leader of the Progressive Socialist Party "PSP" of Lebanon is a spy for the CIA and French Intelligence service.
In a book entitled "Lebanon; Fake Hostages" which was published a few days ago in Paris, Bonnet has revealed astonishing secrets about Jumblatt's activities against the Lebanese Shiite Muslims hidden for 25 year, semi-official Fars news agency quoted "al-Haqiqeh" news website as saying.
On page 90 of the book, Bonnet discloses that in 1983 Jumblatt provided the French Intelligence service with some intelligence on the presence of a group of Shiite Muslims in the heights called "Sheikh Abdollah" near the town of Baalbek in the Lebanese Bekaa region.
"Later on, based on the intelligence received from Jumblatt, the French aircrafts bombarded the area," the book reads.
Bonnet goes on to say that the intelligence received from Jumblatt showed at the time that those present at the region were some of the Lebanese Hizbullah fighters who had earlier attacked French bases in Baalbek in 1982.
"But the raid failed completely and just lead to the death of a shepherd because the group had left the scene before the arrival of French aircrafts," the book says.
Bonnet adds: "In fact, Walid Jumblatt was a spy the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has acknowledged his services to them."
According to the report, by "Jumblatt's service to CIA", Bonnet means the same issue that Gordon Thomas's book entitled 'The Arms Secrets of the CIA' refers to: "The CIA was able to employ Jumblatt, the then Lebanese Tourism Minister, in the early 80's for spying on foreign embassies in Beirut."
