Zionist Ya’alon to Run for PM, Says Netanyahu a Fear-monger
Local Editor
Former Zionist war minister Moshe Ya'alon on Thursday announced he will run for premier, accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of scaring citizens in order to hold on to power, and describing him as a fear-monger who hypes threats against the "Israeli" entity.
In his speech, spoken in Hebrew before an international audience at a gathering at the Herzliya Conference, Ya'alon said he is running to replace Netanyahu in the next election.
"The current leadership must stop scaring citizens," Ya'alon said, considering threats were being exaggerated.
According to him, the "Israeli" entity "deserves a leadership that stops zigzagging and encouraging hate between different groups in "Israeli" society to remain in power at any price," he added.
In the remarks broadcast online Ya'alon added: "My intent is to run for the leadership of "Israel" in the next elections" which are due to take place in 2019 at the latest.
Ya'alon, forced out in May to allow Netanyahu expand his coalition by bringing in a hardline nationalist party, repeatedly criticized the current government since leaving office.
As he resigned last month, Ya'alon warned of a rising tide of extremists in the occupation entity as well as in the Likud.
Not to mention, Ya'alon had repeatedly clashed with far-right members of the coalition before resigning.
