MP Khalil stresses on the need for dialogue
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 3-5-2008
MP Ali Hassan Khalil of the Development and Liberation bloc said that the call of Speaker Nabih Berri for dialogue is a serious chance for reaching a solution.
"In spite of March 14 stance, we consider that there is still a chance for them to reconsider their position over dialogue," Hassan told the Kuwaiti daily Al-Qabas.
He also noted that once dialogue is launched it will not be bound by a timeframe. "Dialogue will be open-ended until an agreement is reached and then Army Commander General Michel Sleiman will be elected as president."
"We our basing our call for dialogue on the Arab initiative and it is restricted to two points: the government and the electoral law," Khalil noted.
Commenting on the May 13 presidential session, Khalil said that all is pending the majority's acceptance of dialogue.
"Lately, some March 14 leaders have been talking about the simple majority choice in spite the constitutional and legal debate over this matter," Kahlil declared.
He also noted that a meeting joining Berri to MP Saad Hariri is not impossible, but stressed on the fact that MP Michel Aoun remains the opposition's negotiator.
