MP Hassan Fadlallah said the Media and Communications Committee extended an invitation to any of services in the public or private sector to make a political decision on whether to attend parliamentary committee meetings in defense of the rights and interests of Lebanese citizens.
After a committee in the House of Parliament, Fadlallah said that the two mobile phone service providers in Lebanon bore "full responsibility" for taking a position of confrontation with the parliament by absenting their representatives from the Media and Communications Committee meeting. "These two companies do not require prior authorization of political power, especially that they had previously been invited to committee meetings directly, without passing through the Ministry of Telecommunications," Fadlallah said, "because they are private companies operating in the public sector."
Fadlallah accused the two service providers of evading responsibility and taking advantage of the current circumstances in Lebanon at the expense of the interests of citizens and the state treasury. The MP announced that the committee had decided to hold a hearing next week and had invited the two companies.
Fadlallah also said the Hizbullah communications network would be discussed "when the need arises."
