Resigned Minister Trad Hamadeh: General strike is constitutional right of the General Workers Union
Source: NowLebnon, 05-05-2008
Resigned Labor Minister Trad Hamadeh said the general strike scheduled for May 7 was the "constitutional right of the General Workers Union," noting that the ministry shared his stance in the upcoming strike. Hamadeh refused to support or denounce the strike.
In an interview with the Lebanese Central News Agency, Hamadeh said he had "vigorously sought" to see that dialogue between economic committees and the General Workers Union succeeded. He added that he was able to establish a platform for correcting wages and improving the national economy and local production through a studied plan. "The Ministry of Labor calls for dialogue among all forces of production to reach a constructive agreement," he said.
Hamadeh said his return to ministerial tasks had "set the train back on its track," noting that the train was his as "the original Minister of Labor."
