Senior Iranian Official Arrives in Beirut

A high-ranking Iranian official landed in Beirut Monday on a two-day official visit to meet with senior Lebanese officials.

The chairman of the Iranian parliamentary committee for national security and foreign policy, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, is expected to meet with Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Tammam Salam, Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil, a Hizbullah delegation and Palestinian factions in Lebanon.

He was greeted at the airport by Amal MP Ali Bazzi, Hizbullah MP Ali Meqdad and Iranian Ambassador to Lebanon Mohammad Fathali.

Boroujerdi last visited Lebanon in January 2015 in order to honor six Hizbullah members and an Iranian general martyred in an "Israeli" strike in Syria's Golan Heights. Hizbullah retaliated then by attacking an "Israeli" convoy, killing two soldiers.
