The opposition will pursue its protests in the capital until the government goes back on its decisions against Hizbullah's communications network, an opposition official said on Wednesday.
"The protests will continue in the form of civil disobedience until the government revokes its recent anti-Hizbullah decisions," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
He was referring to the cabinet's move earlier this week to reassign the head of airport security over allegations he was close to Hizbullah and that he was aware of surveillance cameras the group had set up near the airport to monitor the movements of politicians and foreign dignitaries.
The cabinet also launched a probe into a telecommunication network Hizbullah has set up with the alleged assistance of Iran.
Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah is scheduled to respond to the government moves at a press conference on Thursday that would be his first in two years.
The anti-government protests on Wednesday, initially called by the trade unions to demand pay rises to meet the escalating cost of living, degenerated into clashes between supporters of the ruling bloc and the opposition, which have been locked in a 16-month power struggle.
