The head of the Lebanese Democratic Party Talal Arslan lashed out at the latest positions by Lebanon Mufti Mohamad Rashid Kabbani. Kabbani said that the struggle today is between the Sunnis and Hizbullah.
Arslan held the unconstitutional government of Fouad Saniora responsible for the repercussions of its recent dubious decisions which went beyond red lines and threatened national security and peace, to fulfill the US-Israeli scheme to destroy the country". "This government headed by Fouad Saniora is a tool of sedition and civil war... As we defeated Israel in July 2006, we will be able at the same time to defeat the new aggression against our country, people and resistance", Arslan said in a statement. "We won't let them drag the country into a new civil war", he added.
Arslan retorted to the latest positions of Mufti Kabbani and regretted the "tense sectarian speech of a religious reference (Kabbani) which should have worked on reuniting the Lebanese instead of adding sectarian dimensions to the current conflict". Kabbani, according to Arslan, ought to stop Saniora from taking decisions that have been regarded as an announcement of war on the resistance in a way Lebanon has never seen since the Israeli invasion in 1982."
