Wahhab grants PSP 24 hours to hand security to army
Source: NowLebanon, 09-05-2008
Former Minister Wiam Wahhab called on the Lebanese army to take over all security centers run by the Progressive Socialist Party, headed by the opposition's top rival, Walid Jumblatt. Wahhab said the army had until Saturday to assume control over the PSP offices, "or else we will deal with these centers as illegal centers of enmity."
"Their term is over, with no chance for return. After today, there will be no gangsters on the Chouf road or in Aley. Today we return to the logic of government, law and institutions."
"Everyone makes mistakes, but the important thing is to back down from mistakes," Wahhab said. In reference to the 'March 14' (US backed ruling bloc) alliance, Wahhab said the opposition would hold the "gangsters" who took advantage of the assassinated five-time Prime Minister Rafik Hariri's blood accountable.
Wahhab said he hoped that the pro-(US backed) government alliance would not drag the country to war. The former minister also said he hoped the riots would not be transferred from Beirut to the mountains of Lebanon.
