Speaker Nabih Berri said he is waiting for Prime Minister Fouad Saniora's reaction to the army's demand that he cancel the government's decisions about Hizbullah's telecommunications network and airport surveillance, which sparked the bloody five-day fighting and blockages of roads across Lebanon.
"If this is accomplished and I am informed of everyone's approval of dialogue, I will start the preparations, and there will be an open-ended dialogue until an agreement is reached," Berri told the Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar.
"Once a dialogue has started, the opposition will stop its civil disobedience campaign, roads will be reopened, and work will resume at the airport and the seaport," he added.
Berri said that the dialogue's agenda is still the same, and "includes the establishment of a government and the adoption of a new electoral law. Oncue an agreement is reached, consensus presidential candidate Army Commander General Michel Suleiman will be elected president."
Berri told Al-Hayat daily that the battle is not so that one party prevails over another. "It is a reaction to a political mistake committed by the amputated government," he said, adding that the demands are still the same: "The return to dialogue. No more, no less."
