Deadly Suicide Bombings Hit Syria’s Hama: State TV

Syrian state TV said a suicide attacker wearing an explosives belt had blown himself up on a main square in the central city of Hama, martyring two people and wounding others.

The TV cited a police source inside the city said the attack occurred on Monday near the busy Assi Square in Hama. It gave no further details.

Hama governor Ghassan Khalaf told SANA that the attack martyred two people and wounded 12 others.

Monday's blasts came as a coalition of so-called "moderate" militants and Takfiri extremists edged closer to Hama city.

Hama is Syria's fourth largest city and has been relatively quiet in recent years. It's firmly under control of President Bashar Assad's forces.

The suicide attack came as insurgent groups had been on the offensive north of the city, which is the capital of the province that carries the same name.
