Moallem: Syria supports the efforts of the Arab Ministerial Committee
Source: Nowlebanon.com 16-5-2008
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem said that Syria supports the efforts of the Arab Ministerial Committee and the agreement between Lebanese parties that was reached under its auspices.
"This step could be a true chance to save Lebanon from the threats endangering it," Mouallem told the Lebanese daily As-Safir.
He also noted that he contacted Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem Al-Thani and Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa over the phone to express his congratulation over this "Arab achievement."
Commenting on some people's questioning of Syria's intentions, Moallem said that his country has advised the Arab Ministerial Committee not to leave Lebanon until they reach an agreement.
"We also advised them to prevent any foreign interference that might negatively affect the situation," Moallem added.
