Salloukh: Lebanon cannot be ruled but through cooperation
Source: Nowlebanon.com 16-5-2008
Resigned Foreign Minister Fawzi Salloukh said that the government's revocation of its two decisions, which led to six days of violence across Lebanon, is a step toward national dialogue.
"The movement that happened last week was not aimed at strengthening political positions and violating balances, but was aimed at dealing with the government's decisions in a suitable manner," Salloukh said.
He added that opposition factions are aware of the balance of power on the political scene and that Lebanon cannot be governed "but through all of our cooperation."
"Any talk about a coup, an occupation or the intention to amend the Taif Agreement by force is irresponsible," he said.
Salloukh welcomed Arab and European support for the Arab Ministerial Committee's agreement and expressed his appreciation of "the wise decisions and the steps taken by the Lebanese army, which came as proof, once more, that it is a national institution."
