The head of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc General Michel Aoun said the Lebanese national opposition was striving to reach an electoral law that would respect the minimum true representation of the Lebanese nation.
Speaking on Monday night to Al-Manar correspondent in Doha, Aoun accused the ruling bloc, mainly the Future movement, of seeking to establish Beirut as a "Hariri" city, not a capital for all Lebanon. "This is the main point we disagree on," he said.
Aoun stressed it was unacceptable to adopt an electoral law similar to that of 2000 that everyone wants to replace, noting that the idea of a neutral government that would discuss the electoral law at Parliament could be an exit to the problem.
He also emphasized that raising the topic of the arms of the resistance and demanding guarantees in this concern aimed at changing the Doha meeting agenda and securing the persistence of the unconstitutional government of Fouad Saniora. "They seek to shift the discussion from the electoral law and national unity government issues to the arms of the resistance as if it was the main problem," he said.
Aoun concluded by accusing the countries supporting the ruling bloc regionally and internationally of obstructing solutions and making efforts to ensure the failure of national dialogue."
