Iran welcomes Doha Agreement
Source: AFP, 21-5-2008
Iran welcomed on Wednesday a deal reached in Lebanon to end an explosive 18-month political crisis.
"Iran welcomes and is pleased about the agreement reached by the Lebanese factions," the ISNA news agency quoted Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini as saying.
"Iran congratulates all the Lebanese groups, regional countries and the Arab League, and especially the Qatari government," he added.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran hopes that the Doha Accord ... will provide a blossoming and brilliant future for the Lebanese people and serve as the prelude to freeing the rest of Lebanese territory" from Israeli occupation.
The Lebanese government and the opposition reached an Arab-brokered deal in the Qatari capital, Doha, earlier on Wednesday to end the long-running deadlock that erupted in sectarian bloodshed earlier this month.
