Head of the Marada Movement and former MP Suleiman Franjieh commented today on the Doha Agreement. "Those who are confident of their electoral representation were happy with the agreement," he said, "and those who are not confident were not happy with the agreement."
In a television interview to New TV, Franjieh said "The size of Samir Geagea is an MP in Bcharre, and if Walid Jumblatt or Saad Hariri were generous, then he might get another one."
Franjieh commented that the majority acted constructively by returning the rights to "those who deserve them." He said, "We respect Minister Nayla Mouawad, and the 2009 elections are still far away. Syria has left Lebanon, and what remains is a strategic relationship with them. They came and left by international resolutions."
"There are several options, Zgharta says that we are friends with Syria while others say something different, and the people will choose," Franjieh said, adding "PM Saniora is talking about Syria, the sister, now. If he had said that a year-and-a-half ago, we would have prevented [the deaths of] all the martyrs."
Franjieh said that the leaders of 'March 14' (US backed ruling bloc), especially Saad Hariri, have shown that they are men of state, and that they are capable of reaching a solution, pointing out that if they had not given concessions, then the agreement would have failed.
"We are satisfied with the nomination of General Michel Sleiman. We said from the beginning that he was our consensus candidate," Franjieh said, adding that, "General Aoun was accused of wanting the presidency, but it turned out that he wanted rights for all of the Christians."
Regarding his position on Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir, Franjieh said, "The only place where Christians meet is Bkirki, and the problem was that Bkirki supported only one side, which drove some people away."
"There is no problem regarding who will head the new cabinet as long as it is a unity cabinet."
