«Israeli» Protesters Dig in as W Bank Evacuation Begins
Local Editor
The "Israeli" regime's forces Tuesday started to evacuate 9 West Bank settler units, following a Supreme Court decision that they were built on private Palestinian land.
The units in Ofra were ordered to be razed by March 8.
Military and police forces handed the evacuation orders to settler leaders on Tuesday and asked the settlers to cooperate peacefully.
Brig. Gen. Yoram Sofer pleaded with the settlers "to act according to moral standards, to assist us and not to use violence."
One of the settlers defiantly tore up the order but no major disturbances had been reported.
Clashes between police and demonstrators began early Tuesday morning at the site, with demonstrators hurling insults at police officers and burning tires.
Accordingly, one protestor had been arrested thus far for attacking police officers.
Earlier this month, "Israeli" forces uprooted Amona, a nearby occupied West Bank outpost, following a similar court order.
The forces removed settlers and hundreds of their supporters in sometimes violent clashes as they dismantled the settlements.
More than 400,000 "Israeli" settlers reside in the occupied West Bank, which the "Israeli" entity had occupied since the Six-Day War of 1967.
"Israeli" settlements are considered illegal by the international community. However, the "Israeli" entity distinguishes between settlements it had authorized and those built without permission.
