There was plenty to celebrate at the first meeting of the American ‘Israel' Public Affairs Committee [AIPAC] since the election of President Trump. But the two basic guests - US President Donald Trump and Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu- were not on hand for it.

Netanyahu, Trump Skip AIPAC Conference

While Netanyahu spoke via satellite on Monday morning to the 18,000 attendees gathered by AIPAC, Trump dispatched Vice President Mike Pence to speak to the group in his place on Sunday evening.

Their absence spoke to the fluid moment in relations between the White House and the ‘Israeli' government.

While Trump and Netanyahu have pulled each other close, dispelling years of friction between the latter and former President Barack Obama, there are still enough loose ends to make it easier for both parties to skip the high-profile meeting.

Meanwhile, the US is pressing ‘Israel' for an agreement that would slow down the construction of illegal Zionist settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Netanyahu, several experts said, wants to talk to Trump about how best to confront Iran.

But the administration's policy toward Iran is still taking shape, making it less fruitful for the Zionist PM to come to Washington for a face-to-face meeting with the president.
