Kassem: Resistance and opposition are strong and united in solidarity
Source: Manar TV, 02-04-2007
Hizbullah deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Kassem advised Lebanon`s ruling bloc not to bargain on regional developments, because they will be disappointing if they took place. He added that the resistance and the opposition are strong and united in solidarity and therefore they will not be affected by possible changes in the region. Sheikh Kassem called on the so called February 14 bloc to hold early elections if it insists on ruling out a solution to the political crisis based on the 11-19 ministers` formula. "We have been very positive and we called on the ruling bloc to give a few days for discussing the tribunal of international character and endorse its bill, but they`ve been refusing the offer," his eminence said. He added that the ruling bloc`s adopted method to endorse the bill will not serve its purpose.
The so called February 14 bloc threatened in a statement published Monday that it was seeking to ratify the tribunal of international character to try suspects in the murder of former Premier Rafik Hariri "by all means."
The daily As Safir on Monday quoted a senior February 14 official as saying that the statement was intended to hold House Speaker Nabih Berri and all those who delay approval of the court responsible for "any move that would ascertain the creation of the tribunal under Chapter 7." Chapter 7 of the U.N. charter clears the way for the formation of the tribunal without the explicit approval of Lebanon`s government and parliament.
Hizbullah on Sunday warned that any attempt by the majority to convene a parliamentary session outside the house compound would be a "leap into the unknown and an escalation leading to non-benign repercussions."
