Iran Presidential Elections: Final List of Candidates Released

For the May 19 presidential election, Iran's Guardian Council had approved the candidacy of six nominees.
According to Iran's Interior Ministry's press release, Mostafa Aqa-Mirsalim, Es'haq Jahangiri, Hassan Rouhani, Ebrahim Raeisi, Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, and Mostafa Hashemi-Taba are the 6 candidates who have been approved to run for the upcoming election.
The qualified candidates can start their election campaign from now until May 18.
The Guardian Council started the process of screening 1,636 hopefuls registered for the May 19 presidential election on Sunday.
The 12th presidential and the 5th City and Village Councils Elections will be simultaneously held nationwide on May 19.
Observers predict a high turnout in the election in which voters will pick the next president for a four-year term.
The five-day registration process for the presidential election ended on Saturday and the Guardian Council started vetting presidential election hopefuls the following day.
Earlier this week, the commander of the Special Units of the Iranian Police Force said that 20,000 police officers would be deployed across the country to ensure security for the votes.
