Wahhab warns against bargaining on foreign projects
Source: NowLebanon.com, 28-05-2008
Former Minister Wiam Wahhab said the current consultations on premiership ware "embarrassing" for all Lebanese as they had suffered greatly during the rule of Prime Minister Fouad Saniora in recent years.
Wahhab said "some members of the majority" were pressuring others to re-name current Prime Minister Fouad Saniora as the next head of government. "But Saniora in a national-unity government is not the Saniora who can make decision without being held accountable," he noted.
Wahhab said the next parliamentary elections would shift political balance in Lebanon. The Taif Accord would no longer suffice, he continued, and a new agreement should be formed "as Lebanon needs ... constitutional amendments."
"It should be clear to all that there was agreement in Doha on the need to refrain from using arms against Lebanese citizens ... but that does not mean that if anyone again bargains on foreign projects, he will not receive a disciplinary lesson," Wahhab stated.
