Iranian Naval Flotilla Sails for Oman

Local Editor
A flotilla of the Iranian navy departed for the Gulf of Oman amid an ongoing diplomatic crisis on the Arabian Peninsula.

The overseas mission will then head to international waters north of the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden.
The naval fleet, comprised of Alborz destroyer and Bushehr logistic warship, started its voyage on Sunday after a ceremony in Bandar Abbas and was attended by Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari and some other Navy officials.
In recent years, Iran's naval forces increased their presence in high seas to secure naval routes and protect merchant vessels and oil tankers against pirates.
In line with international efforts to combat piracy, the Iranian Navy has also been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden to safeguard the vessels involved in maritime trade, especially ships and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran.
