Der Spiegel: Swap Deal on Table, Includes Two Phases
Source: Al-Manar TV, 03-06-2008
German daily Der Spiegel said that the final plan of the swap deal between Hizbullah and ‘Israel' through a German mediator on behalf of the United Nations is being examined by ‘Israeli' officials in Tel-Aviv. "Now an official proposal is on the table, and Jerusalem is due to decide shortly whether to accept it," the daily said.
According to Der Spiegel, the swap deal includes two phases.
The first phase includes the handing over by ‘Israel' of Hizbullah resistance fighters detained by the Zionist entity, the bodies of ten Lebanese fighters, the remains of fighters who fell during previous wars against ‘Israel'. It would also provide maps detailing the location of minefields ‘Israeli' occupation troops set up in southern Lebanon.
On the other hand, Hizbullah will hand over to ‘Israel' the two ‘Israeli' soldiers captured in July 2006 on the Lebanese-Palestinian border, Eldad Regev and Ehud Glodwasser.
The second phase of the swap deal consists of the release of many Palestinian detainees from ‘Israeli' jails. "In the negotiations over recent months, Hizbullah has insisted that in addition to releasing the four Lebanese fighters and (Samir) Kuntar, (‘Israeli' PM Ehud) Olmert must free a large number of Palestinian fighters being held in ‘Israeli' prisons. The most recent number being discussed is several dozen," the German daily noted.
