Wahhab: Truce only temporary until defeat of the American project in Lebanon and the region
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 04-06-2008
Former Minister Wiam Wahhab refused to agree that the situation in Lebanon was completely resolved. The Doha agreement, he added, formed "a defeat for the pro-government [alliance], a half-victory for the opposition and a half- defeat for America.
In an interview with the Ash-Shourouq daily, Wahhab pointed out that Lebanon had not yet entered the stage of final settlement. The country had only reached a truce, he added. A full political detente in Lebanon could only be reached through the "defeat of the American project in Lebanon and the region."
The appointment of incumbent Prime Minister Fouad Saniora to form and head "a transitional government" was an ominous sign, he added.
"How can Saniora be called the Prime Minister of the transitional government when he is rejected by more than 60% of the Lebanese?" Wahhab asked.
The former minister stressed that the resistance's weapons were a "red line" and outside discussion. The arms, he added, would persist as long as Lebanon was under attack.
