Head of the Change and Reform bloc General Michel Aoun said the Doha agreement set a clear formula for the formation of the national-unity government in terms of power-sharing among the president, opposition and pro-government alliance.
All Lebanese parties had agreed on the formula under an Arab-Qatari aegis, he added. The Arab efforts had facilitated incumbent Prime Minister Fouad Siniora's task, Aoun said, and Siniora only had to complete the second half of the task as part of the "democratic game."
"What is incomprehensible, a week after consultations began, is hiding behind a security incident, and describing it as big and dangerous, to obstruct the formation of the government," Aoun stated.
General Aoun issued a statement on Friday in which he said the general perception among the Lebanese that the security crisis was a fabricated pretense to evade the implementation of the Doha agreement, particularly as no investigations into the incidents in the North, South, Mountain, Bekaa and Beirut were opened.
"We know one thing, that we want the obstructers to know, and that is that the responsibility for security lies on the shoulders of the incumbent government, and particularly the Interior and Defense Ministries," he added.
