Hamas Fighter Martyred in "Israeli" Attack on Gaza
A Palestinian resistance fighter from the armed wing of Hamas has been killed and two others have been wounded in an ‘Israeli' attack on Gaza, medics said. Hamas armed wing, the Ezeddin al-Qassam Brigades, confirmed in a statement on Saturday that one of its members was martyred and two others were wounded by tank shells near an area between eastern Gaza City and the occupied territories.
Mouawiya Hassanin, head of the Palestinian emergency services in the Gaza Strip, said the resistance fighters were struck down by a missile fired by ‘Israel' at the Shejaeya neighborhood in eastern Gaza. Witnesses also said ‘Israeli' troops also entered the northern Gaza Strip near the town of Beit Hanun, and kidnapped a number of Palestinian civilians.
‘Israel' War minister Ehud Barak had earlier threatened a large-scale military operation against Gaza fighters, mainly the Hamas movement. Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said that the movement is taking the regime's threats seriously. "The only choice then will be resistance against an ‘Israeli' attack," he said.
The ‘Israel' army announced on Saturday that it would impose a complete closure on the occupied West Bank for the next two days for a holiday.
"The measure takes effect from midnight Saturday and will in principle be lifted at midnight on Monday barring the unexpected," an army spokeswoman said. During holidays the ‘Israeli' army routinely shuts off the West Bank for fear of retaliatory attacks. The measure prevents the 33,000 or so Palestinians still authorized to work in the occupied territories or east Al-Quds from reaching their places of work.
