Raad: cabinet formation complexities "natural and routine"
Source: nowlebanon.com, 08-06-2008
The complexities of the national-unity government formation were "normal and routine," according to Loyalty to the Resistance bloc head MP Mohammad Raad. Raad said his party did not perceive the complications of the cabinet formation as disruptive to progress, but a "natural" process that necessitated further consultations. He said he hoped the cabinet would see the light next week if all those involved had an "open mind."
In an oblique reference to the Future Movement, Raad said he wished the Lebanese would refrain from invoking matters that were unrelated to the cabinet formation and the tasks of the incumbent prime minister to end their contacts and negotiations. "This is unhelpful and does not expedite the government formation, which will be formed sooner or later," he added.
Raad said he was not pessimistic in the least on the cabinet formation, adding that Hizbullah was open to addressing all issues as agreed upon in the Doha accord. "The issue is not that of a portfolio or ministerial seat, but of commitment to what has been agreed on," he added.
"We must note that what happened in Doha was not a sophisticated solution for Lebanon, but a new settlement for the crisis of the recent period. We hope that things will calm down, and that we can explore the common interests of the Lebanese and the national interests of Lebanon," he added.
Raad called for the need to find a fair electoral law that was more than just a temporary settlement, but "the base for the development of political society and political and economic life in Lebanon."
