Arslan: I am not a mediator and proud of alliance with Hizbullah
Source: Now Lebanon, 11-06-2008
Former Minister Talal Arslan said he was proud of his alliance with Hizbullah and the opposition. "I am still part of the opposition, and I am not playing the role of mediator," he said in reply to MP Walid Jumblatt's interview with As-Safir newspaper, where the latter said he accepted Arslan's mediation between the PSP and Hizbullah during May's fighting in the Mountain.
"I played a security role rather than a mediation role among opposition- and majority-aligned Druze," Arslan told As-Safir.
He added that it is too early to speak of an electoral alliance joining himself and Jumblatt. "Any rapprochement between us is conditioned on a rapprochement between the opposition and the majority in general."
Commenting on Jumblatt's rumored approval of his participation in the government, Arslan said that any participation on his part will be made within the framework of his alliance with the opposition.
"Previously, the veto was on the opposition as a whole, and not on me personally," Arslan noted.
