Karami deems Lebanon "puzzle" to foreign ambassadors
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 12-6-2008
Former Prime Minister Omar Karami said that Lebanon was a "puzzle to ambassadors because it surprises them, for after reaching the point of civil war, they watched politicians come together and accept one other as if nothing had happened."
"After all, this is Lebanon," he continued.
Karami, who met with a number of ambassadors to Lebanon on Thursday, said he believed that all parties in Lebanon had become aware of "the seriousness of the situation... especially the sectarian tension which led to this rift."
"What we now see is maneuvers by the two teams to improve their conditions, but the situation is no longer tolerable," he said in reference to the opposition and pro-government alliances.
Replying to a question on the Doha agreement, Karami said he was "unafraid."
"I think both parties confirmed that matters were moving in the right direction... The responsibility of the new government should be to put an immediate end to all these abuses."
