Wahhab confirms opposition will "never abandon" Aoun
Source: nowlebanon.com, 13-06-2008
Former Minister Wiam Wahhab denounced the events in the Mountain and Majdalbaana. "The incident is in judicial custody," which he said yesterday released three young men who were detained on suspected links to the incidents.
Four additional young men remain arrested, he continued, "and we have no problem. But we were surprised this morning that the army raided houses in Majdelaabda and arrested six young men."
In a press conference at his office in Bir Hassan, Wahhab said the biggest surprise was that neither the government nor army intelligence had any knowledge of the arrests. He appealed to President Michel Suleiman to take all security measures to control the chaos. "Storming houses and terrorizing people and children at dawn is bad, and the homes of families of the Mountain are not open to invasions," he added.
On the ongoing consultations to form the government, Wahhab said the opposition would not betray Free Patriotic Movement leader General Michel Aoun. The opposition would support Aoun in his right to sovereign and service ministries. "The opposition will not abandon him," Wahhab concluded.
