The vice president of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council, Sheikh Abdel-Amir Qabalan, said the Lebanese people were still awaiting the establishment of the new government in order to settle current problems.

"We call on President Michel Suleiman to take matters firmly in his hands and not to wait for compromise, as he must settle issues in a determined way and urge the prime minister to fulfill his responsibilities; whether he creates the government or resigns," Qabalan said in his weekly Friday sermon.

"Enough procrastination, all ministries should be sovereign, while not being monopolized by any party. This is why we are asking for assigning ministries to all parties on a rotating basis," he added.

Qabalan also said that a dialogue needs to be opened among the Lebanese in a bid to settle all remaining conflict.

The sheikh also urged opposition and government supporters to work in favor of the Lebanese people's interests, particularly Lebanon's farmers.

"Officials should provide citizens with electricity and job opportunities, while dealing with the hike in fuel prices," Qabalan said.
