Source: Alalam.ir, 18-06-2008
BAGHDAD, Iraq--A US military base in Iraqi city of Diwaniyah was hit by mortar attack, while an American soldier was killed near Hillah.
According to news sources, a set of rockets targeted the US base in Diwaniyah, 80 miles south of Baghdad on Tuesday.
The sources said that nine missiles hit the base in the city, located in Al-Qadisiyah province. There was no immediate word on casualties or damages.
In another incident, a US soldier was killed when a bomb exploded southeast of the city of Hillah, 55 miles south of Baghdad, bringing the death toll of occupying US soldiers in June to 17.
A statement by the US army said "a soldier from the Multinational Division in the middle, was killed by a bomb exploded south-east of Hilla yesterday (Monday)."
The US Defense Department announced earlier in the day (Monday) that in two separate killings, two Marines were killed in Anbar province, on June 11.
The killings brought the number of US losses in Iraq since the start of military invasion in March 2003 as 4101 dead.
