Bassil: Hariri should turn his words into practice
Source: nowlebanon.com, 02-07-2008
FPM Political Relations Officer Gebran Bassil commented on MP Saad Hariri's statement following the latter's meeting with President Michel Suleiman in Baabda Tuesday night.
Hariri called on every concerned party to make efforts toward the establishment of the government and reiterated the army and the Internal Security Forces' role in handling and resolving security issues, irrespective of political disputes in the country. Hariri also said there should be no winners and no losers created by the government's formation, and promised that he and PM-designate Fouad Saniora would make contacts with the opposition to facilitate progress.
Bassil responded by telling Lebanese daily As-Safir, "We have accepted compromises and were very positive, and we are waiting for the other party to act in a similar way so we can meet halfway,"
"The positive attitude Hariri displayed in his statement must be put in practice. The establishment of the government cannot be delayed any more, and people are yearning for someone to look at their problems," he added.
According to Bassil, the establishment of a national-unity government and the adoption of a new electoral law will drive Lebanon into a new and better political phase.
