Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday that Saudi Arabia would not have murdered prominent journalist Jamal Khashoggi without American protection, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency [IRNA].

In the same respect, US President Donald Trump claimed on Tuesday Saudi authorities staged the “worst cover-up ever” in the killing of Khashoggi in Turkey this month, as the United States vowed to revoke the visas of some of those believed to be responsible.

Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi journalist for The Washington Post, author, and a former general manager and editor-in-chief of Al-Arab News Channel, was chopped up at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, on 2 October 2018, and his body has not been found since then.

Two Saudi government officials claimed he had been choked to death by another government operative when an attempt to persuade him to return him to Saudi Arabia went wrong.

The claims have been disputed and found lacking evidence by the world governments, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman has been blamed for masterminding the brutal crime.
