TEHRAN--Iran test-fired more long-range missiles overnight in a second round of exercises meant to show that the country can defend itself against any attacks.

They have "special capabilities" and included missiles launched from naval ships in the Persian Gulf, along with torpedoes and surface-to-surface missiles.

Among the missiles Iran tested Wednesday was a new version of the Shahab-3, which has a range of 2,000 kilometers and is armed with a 1-ton conventional warhead.

The test fires took place in a navy military drill dubbed 'the Great Prophet 3' in the Persian Gulf Wednesday.

The tests were conducted at the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway at the mouth of the Persian Gulf through which about 40 percent of the world's oil passes.

Nine highly advanced missiles, including the Zelzal and Fateh missiles with ranges of 400km and 170km respectively, were also tested during the drill.
