Just after the policy statement draft was approved by the ministerial committee on Friday, reactions started. Most of the Lebanese political parties hailed the statement as strong and comprehensive. Nevertheless, and because the statement included the word "Resistance" and affirmed once again its basic right of the Resistance to liberate land, which does not suit some politicians' schemes, different were the reservations expressed over the statement.
SHEIKH KASSEM: POLICY STATEMENT DECLARATION THAT LEBANON IS MAINTAINING SOURCE OF STRENGTH
Hizbullah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Kassem said it is normal that the policy statement confirms that Lebanon, its people, army and Resistance have the right to liberate or regain the Shibaa Farms and the Kfar Shouba Hills. "This is a clear declaration that Lebanon is keen on maintaining the sources of its force," his eminence stressed.
Sheikh Kassem noted that Lebanon is today in a strong position. "There is no need to fear its strength or the strength of its Resistance which liberated the land and the detainees."
MIINSTER FNEISH HAILS POLICY STATEMENT DRAFT AS VICTORY
Labor Minister Mohamad Fneish stressed that the policy statement draft is a victory for Lebanon's right in resistance and considered it as a message to the world that Lebanon's army and resistance would confront to the continuation of the "Israeli" aggressions against the country.
Speaking to Al-Manar TV, Fneish said that the reservation of some ministers in the policy statement committee over the resistance-related clause does not agree with the nature of the resistance work and the state's missions.
The statement included a clause on the "right of Lebanon, its people, army and resistance to liberate or reclaim its land." But some ministers sought to add to the clause the phrase "this right is to be practiced under the state wing" but it was not agreed on.
MP FADLALLAH: RESISTANCE ENJOYS TOTAL FREEDOM IN DEFENDING LAND
Member of Loyalty to the Resistance MP Hasan Fadlallah said that Hizbullah has agreed over all sections in the policy statement, expressing hope it will be implemented.
"We see that the Resistance is being cooperative with the Lebanese army. The Resistance enjoys total freedom in defending the land and resisting "Israel"," Fadlallah said.
He also noted that the policy statement has determined the role of the government. "We have overcome the past and our dealing today is based on partnership," Fadlallah said while noting the need to open a new page. "I think we have set important points in the policy statement and on which we can build something," he declared.
MP NICOLAS: NOTHING MATTERS AS LONG AS STATEMENT SUPPORTS RESISTANCE
For his part, member of Change and Reform parliamentary bloc MP Nabil Nicolas said that nothing matters "as long as the ministerial statement supports the Resistance."
"MARCH 14" DISSATISFIED WITH STATEMENT
But the so-called "March 14" forces didn't feel satisfied with the policy statement. In this context, the so-called "March 14 General Secretariat" coordinator former MP Fares Soaid declared, after visiting Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir, objection to the statement.
Soaid claimed that was happened was imposed on Lebanon by a party "that seeks to be an independent state within the Lebanese state in order to control the whole state."
GEAGEA: SOME OF THE STATEMENT CLAUSES ARE INCONSISTENT WITH MY CONVICTIONS!
The Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea said that he will have reservations on some of the policy statement clauses because they are "inconsistent with his beliefs and convictions."
But Geagea assured at the same time that he will not obstruct the statement adoption, urging his supporters to start preparing for the next legislative elections to end what he described as slogan of "representing 70% of Christians," in reference to the popularity percentage of the head of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc MP Michel Aoun.
MARWAN HMADE: STATEMENT GAVE RESISTANCE WHAT IT DESERVES
But Democratic Gathering MP Marwan Hmade caught everyone's eyes with his welcoming speech after a long period of silence. Hmade actually admitted that the statement gave the Resistance what it deserves noting that it includes warnings against using weapons in wrong directions.
Hmade said that the policy statement is not a constitution and its role ends with the government that would be followed by another one, based on the legislative elections.
