Berri says parliament΄s discussion of ministerial statement may last through Sunday
Source: Nowlebanon.com, 6-8-2008
Speaker Nabih Berri told An-Nahar newspaper's Wednesday edition that he expects the parliament's discussion of the ministerial statement to last for three days, from Friday until Sunday.
"I don't mind if it is prolonged until Monday, either," Berri told the daily, adding, however, that he is in a hurry to convene the session for the parliamentary vote of confidence so that the government can start working and fulfilling its duties.
When asked if he expects a heated discussion over the ministerial statement in the parliament, Berri said that whether or not they go smoothly, the discussions must take place inside the parliament, and nowhere else.
"We must not look to the past and stay within the limits of what is useful now and in the future," he told the paper, reminding of his call for electing a consensus president and forming a national unity government in Baalbek nearly a year ago.
Berri said leaders in Lebanon must act quickly to make up for the time that has been wasted, adding that the present government should lay the foundations for a better future, including overseeing the upcoming legislative elections.
"All of us [politicians] must work together to make a good example for the Lebanese people," Berri said.
